APRIL 5, 2016: AABAR'S "CAREERS IN LAW" PANEL

 Thanks to our fantastic Bar Members for organizing and presenting a wonderful Arab American Bar Association Career Panel for Chicago law school students. 

 Today, the Chicago Bar Association and the Arab American Bar Association awarded the Honorable William Haddad with the prestigious Vanguard Award for his many years of service to the Arab American community as one of the founders of the Arab American Bar Association and AMVote and for his service as a judge.  Congratulations Judge Haddad! 

  Past President of AABAR and current Professor at   Loyola University Chicago School of Law, John Breen, teamed with Hon. Haddad   to host a CLE entitled “Islamophobia and The Rule of Law: Professional   Responsibility, Immigration and Constitutional Law Perspectives.” The   presentation focused on constitutional and legal issues concerning hate   speech, hate violence, and discriminatory immigration policies against Arab Americans and Muslim Americans. The presentation was a major success and its video was shared by the ABA, reaching over 400,000 members. 

  AABAR took part in the All Arab American Professional Networking Event. Over 150 professionals gathered from the various Arab organizations in Chicago to network at this premier gathering.  

 AABAR's own Judge Haddad served as the emcee at the Decalogue Society Merit Award Dinner for Israel Supreme Court Justice Salim Joubran. Joubran is the first Arab to receive a permanent appointment in the Supreme Court.

 The Arab American Bar Association is presenting a panel discussion at DePaul University College of Law in conjunction with the DePaul Multicultural Law Student Association, Muslim Law Student Association, and International Human Rights Law Institute. The panel entitled "Combating Hate Speech," featured Judge William Haddad, Vivian Khalaf, Attorney at Law, and Professor Peter Kirstein. 

 The Bar's annual Courthouse tour was a great success. We had a great turnout from members of our community. Thank you to all who participated! 

  AABAR held its 25th Anniversary and   Installation Dinner with guest speaker Honorable Darin M. LaHood and Supreme   Court Chief Justice Thomas L. Kilbride. The installed officers included Donna   Haddad, Sandra Frantzen, Anwar T. Shatat, Marvet M. Sweis Drnovsek, and Nura   A. Yanaki. The event also featured a tribute video, reflecting on AABAR’s 25   years of progress and success!
