Eligibility: Any law student currently enrolled as a first-year (1L) or second-year (2L) student at an Illinois law school who demonstrates a commitment to advancing the values of the Arab American Bar Association, including respect for the Rule of Law, inclusivity, and diverse perspectives, is eligible to apply. Such commitment may be demonstrated through active participation in the MENA community, student organizations, community service, or other activities that promote inclusion and diverse perspectives. Students must be members of the Arab American Bar Association of Illinois (student membership is free). Scholarship funds in the amount of $2500 to $5000 will be sent directly to the awardee’s law school to be applied toward tuition for the 2027-28 academic year.
Selection Criteria: Applicants will be selected based on academic achievement, demonstrated financial need or financial circumstances, involvement in the Arab American community, demonstrated leadership, and commitment to the Rule of Law.
Application Process: The applicant must submit the following items to be considered for a scholarship. All application materials must be submitted online no later than OCTOBER 15, 2026. Applicants will be notified for an interview with the Committee via Zoom.
- Completed application form;
- Resume;
- A photograph and/or headshot of you;
- Official transcript from your law school. Undergraduate transcripts for 1L students who do not yet have law school grades;
- Up to 2 letters of recommendation from individual(s) not related to you (e.g., professor/school official/community leader); and,
- An essay of no more than 500 words discussing your commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession and how your background, experiences, or perspectives have shaped that commitment; and,
- A brief description of any financial circumstances that you would like the Scholarship Committee to consider in evaluating your application. You may include information about educational expenses, employment responsibilities, family obligations, student debt, or other circumstances that affect your ability to finance your legal education. Please do NOT provide tax returns, bank statements, or other financial documentation.
Special Notice to Applicants: Scholarships will be presented at the Arab American Bar Association Scholarship Foundation’s Gala on March 13, 2027, at the Drury Lane, Oak Brook Terrace. Recipients are required to be present to receive their award. Each recipient will receive a complimentary, non-transferable ticket for the Scholarship Gala as well as one additional guest ticket.
